I realize it's been a while since I've posted anything here. SO, in case anyone was wondering:
Nothing major has been happening lately, and luckily I don't have too much work this month. Work in the ICU (when there is work to do) is interesting, but seeing patients die is taking a toll on me, especially with a new "record" being broken: first time someone my age dies. The worse part is that when the patient was conscious, I was able to communicate with her, so she wasn't only a body with wires all around, which sometimes helps to distance yourself from what's happening. The only positive thing was that her death wasn't sudden, so I (and her family, I presume) had time to get used to the idea.
Apart from that, I really do like the ICU. The doctors and interns are very nice and most take their time to explain, which wasn't always the case in my last internship.
Anyway, I don't have to go to the hospital this week (only class), so I'm hoping (though I can't seem to keep my resolutions) that I'll be able to do some writing.
ETA: I just saw that I am in the top five for the Reviewer Award for this year's
dmhgficexchange! Not that brightened my day! And congratulations to the real winner,
meganmurphy1977!

on 2010-03-15 07:30 pm (UTC)Glad to hear your internship is going well, even though I'm sure it must be difficult dealing with all the death. I guess that a part of practicing medicine but I imagine it never gets any easier to deal with. *hugs*
Congrats on being in the top five for the Reviewer Award! You totally deserve it! You always give great reviews! :)
Hope the rest of your day is fantastic! Talk to you soon!

on 2010-03-15 08:35 pm (UTC)On a more positive not, I'm just so excited I was in the top five. I didn't review much before, but then when they started this round and set up a reviewer's award, I thought that even though I didn't have much of a chance of winning, this was the perfect occasion to be less shy and review!

on 2010-03-19 02:39 am (UTC)Hope that your internship will continue to go well, and you'll find a balance some where in between being strongly affected and getting used to the deaths. That part of the medical profession is probably the one that make me admire the most, apart from saving lives.
And congrats for making it into the top five :)

on 2010-03-19 09:56 am (UTC)I guess that with people who don't post often (like me), it isn't very surprising when there's a month or so between posts. For people who write more often, the gap is noticeable.

on 2010-03-27 11:11 pm (UTC)I guess life's hectic on the other side of the Alps too. :) Things have been good these past... 2 weeks? Yes, that's about right. They say no news is good news, so you must really like ICU!
