Snowed out

I'm finally home from 33 hours in the hospital! I was on duty in the Cardiology Intensive Unit from 8 A.M. on Sunday morning to the same time this morning. It was interesting and not too busy, and I managed to sleep some during the night.

The cardiologist also on duty and I decided we didn't like surgeons as a whole. You know, those that call at nine in the evening because maybe their patient has a pulmonary embolism and has been getting worse all day, but really, he was in the OR, and it's not really his job to take care of this kind of stuff… (They're not all like this, but it's just so frustrating when you hear people thinking that way!).

I went to bed early but was woken up in the middle of the night to go see a patient that had just arrived. What wasn't funny was realizing it was snowing, when of course the weather forecast had said nothing about it the previous day. (Which means I didn't dress for snow). And sure enough, at eight A.M. this morning, there was at least 20 cm of snow (almost eight inches) on the ground and snow covering the roads. I could see the huge traffic jams from the window.

I had an exam at two P.M. and I had wanted to go back home to rest but decided to stay in the hospital, otherwise I might have spent four hours on the road going back and forth between the hospital and home. As it turned out, it was a wise decision. I got to rest some more, then took my exam (which went okay) and was able to go back home at four.

Before that, I had to clear the car of snow–with my arms.

No fun at all.

I got home at four thirty, and though I did sleep and rest, I'm still exhausted. And it's continuing to snow. And I have to go back to work tomorrow. Yay!

No, no fun at all! And I thought I had had a bad day!

It's been snowing a lot here too, and it must be freakishly cold because my car wouldn't even start this afternoon. Something yellow or orange kept flashing at him and the trip computer warned me to shut the engine off (I am currently wondering if the car would have exploded, had I not heeded his command...).

I really hope you get to sleep tonight! It sounds like you deserve a good night's sleep!

Snow's pretty cool when you're ready for it. Otherwise, when roads are blocked … not so fun (and you'd THINK a city that hosted the winter Olympics would know how to deal with it).

I've never been in snow where it wasn't fun. Perhaps if I stayed in a snowy place for longer than a day, I'd know. XD (LOL!)

My roommate's mom is an ICU nurse, and she shares you frustration with those types of surgeons. The snow looked like that here about a week ago, of course the 5 days over the last two weeks that they forecast snow we got nothing, and then got blizzard conditions and snow at the rate of 4 inches/hour on the day that was predicted to be clear. As per usual, it was snowy and icy when I realized that I have lost my ice scraper, along with apparently everyone else in a 60 mile radius as every store in town was sold out.

Glad you managed to get some rest.

Oh, that's tough without an ice scraper. I had one, not that it was much use, since there was no ice. I can't really imagine how to manage without one!
